Beginner's Mind
It’s been over a year since my last note, and in that time I’ve focused on giving the studio space and breathing room. That’s an interesting practice, as my studio life hasn’t always been so calm. Less control, more trust. Less spreadsheets, more flow. That’s led me down the path of ceramics, and incorporating that medium with leather has kept my focus of late. The idea for these sculptures often comes in a flash, but the process, as always, to turn that into a reality is very slow, much like tooling leather. There are steps and sub-steps, prayers whispered to the kiln, surprises at each turn, and then figuring out how it all actually works. These are my favorite puzzles of late.
