Working with Goat

Tooling goat by Natalie DavisThis last week I began working with goat leather for the first time. I bought a beautiful hide during our Guild field trip to the Tandy Leather store in Fort Worth and have been waiting for the right project to use it...enter Father's day.

The goat has a really crazy texture to it, much more so than the cow hides I've worked with before. I tooled around with some doodles (see above) and broke out a new blue leather stain to try out. After sketching out some options, I settled on a simple folded wallet for my dad, something that would require no sewing and be very light.

I'm really curious to see how this wears after some use, and am currently working on adjustments for the next prototype. I am completely in love with the blue and have some fun ideas in store for the next round. What do you guys think? Would you use such a small wallet? I'm looking forward to pairing things down to use this myself.
